Phloxes are beautiful perennial plants that are popular among gardeners due to their unpretentiousness, abundant flowering and myriad of varieties. They are great for decorating flower beds and lawns, and they can be used singly and in compositions.
There are a huge number of species and varieties of phlox, differing in flower shape, height and colour. The most popular among gardeners are paniculata phlox, which have spike-shaped inflorescences with small flowers of various shades – from white and pink to rich red. Oriental phloxes are also popular – with large flowers and rich shades.
Phloxes are characterised by long-term flowering, which begins in July and lasts until September. They do not require special care – regular watering and fertilizing is enough for them. Phloxes prefer sunny places with fertile soil, although they can grow in partial shade.
In garden design, phloxes can be used to create flower arrangements and to frame paths and ponds. They blend well with other plants and can be used as backdrop and foreground. Phloxes look good in mixed plantings with other perennials, such as lilies or iris.
Phloxes are wonderful plants that can brighten any garden with their colourful blooms. They do not require special care and delight you with their intensity throughout the summer.
